An Algebraic Characterisation of Concurrent Composition
نویسنده
چکیده
I was invited by Olivier Danvy and Carolyn Talcott to contribute to this special issue of Higher Order and Symbolic Computation in honour of Peter Landin. They were keen to include some technical contributions, and I recalled my very first piece of theoretical work, which had only appeared as a 1981 Queen Mary College technical report, and which seemed as if it might be appropriate for several reasons:

In this paper, I will describe and critically evaluate the paper Distributed Bisimulations, by Ilaria Castellani and Matthew Hennessy [5]. The aim of their paper is to generalise bisimulation equivalence for a subset of CCS to take into account the distributed nature of processes and, thus give a noninterleaving semantic theory which has many of the advantages of the interleaving theory. This t...
متن کاملM - nets : an Algebra of High - level Petri Nets , with an Application to the Semantics ofConcurrent Programming
This paper describes a high-level Petri net model called M-nets (for modular multilabelled nets). A distinctive feature of this model is that it allows both: unfolding, as do most other high-level net models; and composition { in particular, synchronisation { in a process algebraic style, turning the set of M-nets into an algebraic domain. It turns out that the composition operations of this do...
متن کاملA Strong Regular Relation on ?-Semihyperrings
The concept of algebraic hyperstructures introduced by Marty as a generalization of ordinary algebraic structures. In an ordinary algebraic structure, the composition of two elements is an element, while in an algebraic hyperstructure, the composition of two elements is a set. The concept of ?-semihyperrings is a generalization of semirings, a generalization of semihyperrings and a generalizat...
متن کاملA State-Based Characterisation of the Conflict Preorder
This paper proposes a way to effectively compare the potential of processes to cause conflict. In discrete event systems theory, two concurrent systems are said to be in conflict if they can get trapped in a situation where they are both waiting or running endlessly, forever unable to complete their common task. The conflict preorder is a process-algebraic pre-congruence that compares two proce...
متن کاملCharacterisation and Corrosion Performance of MultilayerNano Nickel Coatings on AZ31 Magnesium Alloy
Ni-P and Ni layers multilayer coatings were applied to AZ31 magnesium alloy utilizing electroless and electrodeposition procedures. The aim of the project was to decrease cracks and increase corrosion resistance of the coatings. In order to compare the coatings, the effect of single layer electroless Ni-P coatings with different thicknesses was also investigated. The microstructure and phase co...
